Bio

Steve Nida is Emeritus Professor and former Head of the Department of Psychology at The Citadel, in Charleston, South Carolina. He is a well-known social psychologist who has held academic appointments at four different universities; his research and publications have addressed such topics as helping behavior in emergencies, group processes, and ostracism. Steve is the co-editor of Ostracism, Exclusion, and Rejection (Psychology Press, 2017), and over the course of his career he has produced some 150 journal articles, book chapters, and professional presentations. A past-president of the Southeastern Psychological Association, Steve enjoys national recognition as an accomplished teacher of psychology, and he has taught courses at Common Ground on several occasions since 2009. During the course of his 43 years as a college educator, he has consistently emphasized the theme that an understanding of basic social psychological principles empowers individuals to make a positive difference in their social world.
