“If you can say it, you can play it.” These words from Jaqui’s first teacher, Babatunde Olatunji, are the foundation of every Drum For Joy!™ class. You’ll learn the language of the drum, basic hand drum technique, and how to make your drum sing. Jaqui makes rhythms fun and easy to learn, guiding you through full drum compositions—rhythms, breaks, and solos—for a joyful, group music-making experience. All levels are welcome, from absolute beginners to experienced players. While Jaqui specializes in djembe, other hand drums (ashikos, bougaraboos, and congas) are welcome.
