Bio

Dr. Richard M. Smith is an Associate Professor of Sociology, the Special Advisor to the Provost on Diversity Initiatives, and the 2020 recipient of the Dr. Ira G. Zepp Distinguished Teaching Award at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. He has taught courses in Race and Racism, African American Culture, Social Psychology, Religion, and Criminal Justice for nearly two decades. Additionally, he is the cofounder of Jones & Smith Racial Healing Clinic as well as a sought-after speaker and consultant. He has also worked with religious, cultural, educational, and healthcare organizations to meet diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and to recognize, celebrate and challenge continued growth in diversity within their organizational cultures. His published research has focused on topics in the areas of race, African American culture, and the intersection of race and religion.
