Lydia Sylvia Martin is a musician from The Martin Family Band. The Maryland based group also has roots in Virginia. Lydia Martin is sought after for old time banjo performance and teaching. Her background is a mixture of mentoring by traditional musicians and formal music education. She has an extensive knowledge of American folk traditions. Lydia's solo debut album, Chasing the Ghost, hit the folk charts in 2016. The Martin Family has several recordings available. Robert Johnson for Banjo, a book Lydia co-authored to translate blues guitar into tab for banjo players, is available from Hal Leonard Publications. Over the past 20 years Lydia has performed in diverse venues across the country and in Ireland. Known for expressive banjo playing, Lydia especially enjoys playing for dances, festivals, and folk concert series with family and friends.
