DID YOU KNOW? Earn undergraduate and graduate credit when you take Traditions Weeks workshops, including classes in traditional visual arts, music, film, lecture, and more! Credit available for up to two weeks of classes, across the three Traditions Weeks.
See below for details!
Academic Credit Coordinator: Dr. Pamela Zappardino  zapinator@aol.com

NOTE: Procedures and fees for earning Academic Credit have changed for 2020.  Please read all the information below to ensure that you will earn the credits desired.

Academic credit is available for participation in Common Ground on the Hill and requires full participation in the Traditions Weeks Program as well as additional assigned work.  Full participation is defined as registering for workshops that span all 5 periods of the day throughout each week for which credit is desired.  Attendance at art talks, evening concerts, keynote addresses and other activities is suggested and may also be required.

Participants may elect to earn 3 or 6 academic credits in any one or two of the three Traditions Weeks summer program (3 credits maximum per week)  Once you have registered for Common Ground workshops and noted a desire to earn credits you will be assigned an Instructor of Record who is a member of the McDaniel College Faculty and who will supervise your work, assign additional work in the form of reflections, papers, readings, and/or products to be completed after the Traditions Weeks are over (or before they start.)  and assign your grade.

NOTE: Credits are awarded by McDaniel College and are generally transferable to other academic institutions. Participants should check with their own Institution for questions about transferability.
ACADEMIC CREDIT AVAILABLE:
UNDERGRADUATE
3 or 4 credits per week (to a maximum of 6-8 credits) in English, Art, Music or Interdisciplinary Studies for an additional $175 per credit beyond the Common Ground on the Hill full-time fees ($485 per week). You will be responsible for any additional materials fees if applicable.
GRADUATE
  • Graduate credit: 3 credits per week (to a maximum or 6 credits) available in English, Art, Music, Education, or Humanities for an additional $200 per credit beyond the Common Ground on the Hill full-time fees of $485 per week for a total of $ 1085 per 3 credits. Credit designation is based on your workshop selections.
  • Carroll County Public School Employees Continuing Education: 3 graduate credits per week (up to a maximum of 6 credits) available, designated as EDU 551, Diversity Education, unless special arrangements have been made to designate them otherwise. You may take any combination of courses for the 5 periods per day. Common Ground on the Hill will direct bill CCPS for your Common Ground on the Hill and credit registration fees at a special discount rate of $1065 per week. You will be responsible for any materials fees if applicable (Undergraduate credits are also available for CCPS Employees, designated as EDU 3398, Diversity Education and billed at the same discounted rate as noted above.)  All Carroll County Public School Employees MUST contact their school system's HR Department for authorization PRIOR to registering with Common Ground on the Hill.  Check “cohort” on this form to trigger direct billing. Carroll County informs us weekly about those who have received this authorization.  Once you have obtained this authorization, you must complete your registration with Common Ground on the Hill.
  • Teachers/administrators in districts other than Carroll County may likely also apply credits earned toward continuing education requirements and should check with their school districts as to reimbursement policies. (Most will reimburse for credits earned through Common Ground on the Hill). The tuition and fees for earning three credits will total $1085  If you are participating in 2 weeks, thereby earning 6 credits, the cost will double to $2170.   Should you wish to stay on campus, please see the catalog for additional room and board fees.
DEADLINES
  • Participants wishing to earn academic credit for any one or any two weeks must complete all registration requirements by June 19. If you have plans that will limit your available time to complete all your academic requirements after your time at Traditions Weeks, please register before June 1, so that you can begin some of this work before Traditions Weeks start.
  • You must submit your follow-up coursework and any projects to your Instructor of Record by August 7, 2020.
WITHDRAWAL
After Friday, June 26, withdrawal from participation in Common Ground on the Hill for Academic Credit will incur a fee, the total of which will be dependent on when that withdrawal is initiated. Any refunds that may be made after this point will have this fee deducted from the total returned.
