Make a basket from sweetgrass, a historical art form brought to South Carolina by slaves from West Africa.
The art of sweetgrass basketry is an art form that was brought to South Carolina by slaves who came from West Africa and has been practiced continuously in South Carolina for over three hundred years.
Each participant will get a general historical overview and origin of Sweetgrass basketry along with basic construction methods, materials used in making the basket and tools used in making a basket.
Class limit: 10 students, ages 18 and up
Materials fee: $60 includes basket materials
