Limit: 15 students, ages 18 and up.

Working with pastels, we will be using color, markmaking, and form to improve our current ideas and work. Exercises will focus on directional markmaking, seeing biggest shapes first, and using color to create contrast. Students will work in pastel, using Sennelier La Carte paper. Landscape will be the focus, though other subjects allowed. We will work through guided exercises and students will complete finished paintings.

Students should bring: 

  • Reference photos that you took yourself (NO magazines or copyrighted images)
  • Surface to paint on
  • La Carte paper pochette packs
  • pastels (whatever you have; recommend brands: Terry Ludwig, Unison, or Sennelier)
