Create beautiful and useful items from “past use” textiles and plastic bags - materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Time-honored handcrafts - such as crochet, weaving, Amish knotting, rug twining and coiling - will be introduced for your own contemporary interpretation. The possibilities are endless!

Limit 8 students, ages 14 and up.

Students should have:

  • 2 pcs. Cardboard, approx. 8”x10” (just ballpark sizes)
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins (about 20 or so)
  • Needle and thread
  • Large eye needle
  • Medium crochet hook (any size from J to N)
  • Tape measure
  • 2 t-shirts (different colors)
  • Misc. lightweight fabrics from “past use” clothes, sheets, flannel items, @ 20 - 30 plastic bags - various colors, if available)
  • Netting from fruit or vegetable bags (if available)
  • 6” lightweight wire or large paper clip
  • Bit of masking or duct tape
  • Small frame or stretcher 10” sq. or thereabouts
  • Hammer and about 40 headless nails to make twining loom
  • Two thin rods for sides of loom
  • 4 screw eyes to fit the rods
  • Several bulldog (or other kind) clips
  • Ball of string, hemp or twine - various colors
