Never rely on chord diagrams again! In this class we will cover basic harmonic theory intended to wean folks away from a reliance on chord books and diagrams empowering them to find multiple ways of playing any chord needed for any tune likely to be encountered in Western music. A lofty goal? Perhaps ... but well within the grasp of anyone who attends this session. We will learn frequently used chord progressions, common types of chord substitutions, using substitutions and other strategies to create interesting accompaniments for fiddle tunes, and how to create chord solos. This course includes material that will be new to returning students!
