Ryan Koons is processing archivist at the Maryland Folklife Archive at UMBC. He received a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from UCLA in 2016, before teaching there and directing the UCLA Early Music Ensemble for two years. As an ethnomusicologist, he studies and publishes on Indigenous traditions, environmental humanities, and global music and dance. A long-time collaborator with musical tradition bearers from around the world, Koons performs and teaches early and traditional music from Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, and the British Isles.
