Students will learn design and carving of wood relief with an inclusion of tool survey. Wood ages and matures with time, planning for the changes over time will be included. Discussion of time as it relates to art works will be an ongoing discussion during the class. Basic hand tool skills will be the core of the course, with sharpening and care included. Past students wishing to complete a second side of past work are welcome to bring it.

Limit: 8 students, ages 16 and up

Materials fee of $10 includes sandpaper, finish oil and use of carving tools

Students should bring:

• Carving tools - hand and power, if student has their own.
• Wood, preferably poplar. Students may bring other wood if desired, but it is recommended that first contacting the instructor to discuss the properties of your choice: csantiago@gmail.com
