In Scandinavia the fiddle is quite literally the stuff of legend. Scandinavian fiddle music includes Swedish and Norwegian traditions especially, and brings into play fascinating ancient rhythms, melodies, and harmonies. In this session we’ll learn a variety of fiddle tunes, adapted for mandolin from Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. We’ll cover solo pieces and duets representing each of the major types of styles that typify the music: Polskas, Schottises, Hambos, Waltzes, Snoas, Gånglåtar, etc. We’ll focus mostly on learning these tunes by ear one phrase at a time. The goal by the end of the week, is to give you a nice collection of these tunes to enjoy and play with friends!
