Sparky & Rhonda Ruckers share stories and songs from the convergence of Native American, West African and British Isles peoples in Southern Appalachia.
When Native American, British Isles, and West African people converged in Southern Appalachia, they created a unique and fascinating culture. In their class, Sparky and Rhonda share stories and songs from this rich heritage. In addition to traditional Appalachian songs, ballads, and gospel/spiritual sing-alongs, their repertoire includes newer songs and stories from labor and coal mining struggles in the mountains. You’re also liable to hear a Jack tale, a ghost story, a preacher tale, or a Br’er Rabbit story. Come ready to have fun, learn some history, and sing along!
