A close look at the mandolin style of one of the mandolin icons, master player and composer of music commonly known as 'Dawg' music, which combines elements of bluegrass, folk, jazz and Latin styles. ('Dawg' is David's nickname, given to him by his friend Jerry Garcia.) We will learn several of David's signature tunes - the melody, chords and back up rhythm style, including some pointers for improvising solos and using some of the David's typical modal scales and mandolin licks. For each piece, the sheet music, tablature and sample recording will be provided. (Radim met his hero David Grisman shortly after his arrival to USA from Czechoslovakia in 1989. Their passion for mandolin started a friendship which continues till today. David has released Radim's first two CDs in US on his recording label Acoustic Disc, and also invited him for other recording sessions and concerts as a guest of his quintet or as a duo).
