Five-string banjo is the direct descendant of ancient African lute traditions, plus injections of Euro and Native tech and culture. Funky Banjo’s goal is to take advantage of that and let us experience the breadth of banjo. We get to have fun playing up-picking, finger/thumb, down-stroke frailing, strums, and drop-thumb thumpin’ banjo, all the while learning through song, story, and playing styles from Africa, the Islands, and the U.S. through time. AND…we’ll incorporate the original meaning of “Da Funk”! Something for everyone! Put ‘im on your knee, and let’s go!
