Creative Reuse: Handcrafts with Textiles and Plastics. Create beautiful and useful items from materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Featuring a selection of techniques: crochet, weaving, Amish knotting, rug twining, coiling, quilting, and hand sewing. Make samples of several techniques or focus on one-the possibilities are endless! Students should gather 5-10 “past-use” items of any size, pattern, or color (e.g., clothing, sheets, towels, t-shirts, cotton, flannel, etc...), approx. 20 lightweight plastic bags in as many colors as possible (e.g., newspapers, grocery bags, etc.), and fruit/vegetable net bags. Nothing of perfect condition should be used, as one of the main goals of the class is to promote and practice recycling.

Limit 8 students, ages 12 and up.
