Explore tunes from Celtic nations and what makes each land unique. All listeners and all instruments welcome. Come play, listen, discuss and enjoy!
This class will present five tunes from different Celtic nations throughout the week. In doing so, we’ll address the question of what does term “Celtic” mean when applied to music and culture. We’ll discuss what makes the music of each of the Western European Celtic lands unique, how the music and instrumentation has changed over the centuries and how this traditional art form is adapting to modern musical tastes. Musicians will have access to a website with the tunes in standard notation, ABC notation and mp3 demonstration files. The tunes will be examined in sufficient detail so that after the class musicians can work up those tunes they enjoy for their personal repertoire. Whether you are an instrumentalist, a lover of Celtic music, or just curious, this class will expand your understanding and appreciation of Celtic music and culture. Come to play, listen, discuss and enjoy.
