The Volunteers of Common Ground on the Hill
The marvelous musicans, artists, dancers, performers and teachers of Common Ground are supported by a large community of volunteers. The list of volunteers jobs is below. Please review this and see if you are interested in helping with any of these important functions

Volunteers are eligible to trade service hours for festival entrance. In some cases volunteers are able to trade service hours for classes during Traditions weeks. There is a requirement of 12 hours per class trade. The volunteer coordinator reserves the right to accept or decline Trade for classes based on the need and availability of volunteer positions.
Volunteer Coordinator
Common Ground on the Hill is pleased to welcome our new Volunteer Coordinator, Laurie Precht. Laurie has long been a member of the Common Ground community as both Instructor and participant. You might recognize Laurie's name from her work as a Drum Circle Facilitator in the Carroll/Baltimore area. Laurie, her husband Thomas and sons, Geoffry and Stephen have supported Common Ground in too many ways to name and know the value and rewards that volunteering can bring. Crew Chiefs: All areas need a crew chief to schedule and monitor volunteers.
Traditions Weeks Jobs
Advertising & Promotions: Poster/Postcard placement prior to events
Grounds: Placing directional and informational signs on and around the McDaniel College Campus, Carroll County Farm Museum & Carroll County Agricultural Center
Transportation: Transportation volunteers are responsible for the transportation needs of Common Ground staff and instructors arriving/departing from the airport/train station. Schedule varies. Sat & Sun preceding & following each class week are busy times.
Registration: Registration Volunteers are responsible for registering and checking in Common Ground students and staff. Main Registration dates are the Sunday & Monday of each class week.
Art Gallery: Gallery volunteers are needed to assist in show set up and tear down, as well as to “sit” the gallery during lunch hour daily and for limited evening hours prior to concerts.
Hospitality: During class weeks Hospitality volunteers are responsible for providing general information, checking in instruments, making copies and acting as a message center. Hospitality is open Monday thru Friday class weeks 8:30 – 6:00.
CGOTH Store: Store volunteers assist the manager with stocking and sales as well as with set-up & tear down during class weeks and festival weekend. Volunteers must be able to write tickets as per the store procedures and must be responsible with money.
World Village: Volunteers assist with daily activities and projects Monday thru Friday of World Village.
Evening Events: Ticket sales and money handling are the responsibilities for this position. Evening events take place during each evening of class weeks.
Stage Crew: Stage crew sets up the stage before and between performances and breaks it down at the end of the performance. Volunteers are needed at evening events Monday thru Friday during class weeks as well as throughout the entire festival.
Festival Volunteers
Festival Crew: Festival Crew volunteers are needed to set up/tear down the festival tents and other structures for the weekend.
Gates: The function of this volunteer area is ticket sales. Volunteers must be responsible and trustworthy, as they will be handling money.
Information Booth: Volunteers are needed to provide information to the public in a courteous & friendly manner

Children’s Project Area: Responsibilities for this area include maintaining the project area and offering assistance to children participating. This is a great area for a group volunteers.
Grounds Crew/Runners: Volunteers are needed to monitor the trash bins on festival grounds as well as to pick up any trash not in bins. Volunteers are asked to tie off and remove full trash bags, placing the full bags beside the bins for pick-up and then replace with new bags. Because there is plenty of down time for this job, volunteers are asked to also act as runners for various needs.
