Clog-A-Thon
Call it clogging, buck dancing, flat footin’ or just dancing. Here is a chance to set your inner rhythm free, express your creativity and dance for the joy of being one with the music.  Emphasis will be placed on listening to the music so that the feet are a rhythm instrument just like a drum. These sessions are dedicated to freestyle clogging without the structure required of choreographed dance. Leather soled shoes are best, the sole should be made of a hard material - no athletic shoes, flip-flops, sandals, spike heels. If your shoes will slide on a wood floor they will work for clogging. This is very important for the health of your knees! Also, no taps please.

Roots and Rhythm for Teens and Young Adults
This all day course offers young people an unforgettable experience in movement, traditional dance, singing, and drumming for pure enjoyment and personal expression. The staff of Roots and Rhythm teaches and encourages students with no dance or performance background, making the material very accessible and easy, while at the same time providing more advanced material for experienced students. The atmosphere of the class is fun and non-competitive, focusing on teamwork, and culminates in a popular “Sharing” on the last day where students present what they have learned. Participants explore their personal creative potential through dance, simple and fun improvisational exercises, and a sharing of ideas through discussions that encourage expression and creativity. While learning songs, rhythms, and dances from many cultures, students gain insight into the multi-cultural nature of the United States and how these cultures borrowed and shared traditions, resulting in new traditions. The course offers instruction in several dance styles such as Southern Appalachian clogging, different step dance traditions, African dance, and hamboning, as well as singing with the group, all with live music for accompaniment, plus daily instruction in ensemble drumming. Instead of presenting dance, singing, and drumming as activities only to be performed on stage, the focus is on traditional music and dance as essential aspects of history and expressions of the human experience that can be shared in social settings for fun. This is a safe, chaperoned environment for participants. Students have the option to be full residents, staying in dormitory housing, or may elect to be day students.  For a nominal fee, parents may accompany their children.  Minimum age is 13
